The Indian American Council (IAC) is a hands-on way of getting involved with social development at a grass roots level in India. The program connects US based Indians with opportunities to contribute their expertise on a pro-bono basis with organizations all over India that can benefit from the transfer of expertise. IAC is a platform by which to impact India’s development in an individual capacity. It is about philanthropy of time and knowledge sharing.

The Indian American Council is a unique program. It links members to three key areas of India’s development, which provides the option of contributing to multiple causes by using their professional expertise. It allows members to pick an organization in the city or village they grew up in, so they can contribute to their roots.

Before IAC members visit India, the IAC staff work with them to develop a customized linkage based on their availability and interest. It promotes getting involved in a transparent way, by sharing time, skill and personal relationship building instead of donating funds.

IAC is an initiative of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), India’s premier industry association. By leveraging CII’s staff of over 800 people and 62 offices all over India, IAC members can link to opportunities in metropolitan cities as well as smaller towns to give back to a region that they hold dear to them. Members of the Indian American Council can work directly with growing organizations and institutions India in three areas instrumental to growth:

  • Health and HIV
  • Education
  • Entrepreneurship Development
